Won't you consider becoming a MEMBER and joining our non-profit organization? Or would you prefer to make a one-time DONATION?
Appalachian Memory Keepers is a 501 (c)(3)non-profit organization passionately committed to preserving and sharing the history, heritage and culture of Appalachia. We are able to do what we do only through the generosity of our supporters.
We need your help. It is a fact that Appalachia is changing rapidly. Many of the people and places that we filmed ten years ago are no longer standing or alive. If we had not captured their stories in film and print, they would have been lost forever. You can view many of these stories on YOUTUBE for free. Others you can watch and read only this website, once you become a member.
We think it is vital that we capture as many stories of Old Appalachia as possible . . . BEFORE the people who lived in those times are gone. Why? Because we believe that these people and our Region have value and deserve respect for the important contributions they have made to our society.
It is a simple fact that our children and our children’s children need to know from whence they came. They need to have an understanding of their authentic Appalachian heritage, not the one that is so frequently stereotyped and mocked in pop culture.
Appalachian Memory Keepers is dedicated to preserving and sharing these stories and memories through modern media, including film, podcasts, photographs. We are also very proud to sponsor an Author-in-Residence Program, which to date has featured 15 different aspiring writers who have written over 200 stories that are featured on this website.
Please follow us on Youtube, Facebook, and other social media. Please share our site and posts with your friends and family. Post-sharing is more important than you will ever know in getting out content broadcast across the social media algorithms. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
