Today in Appalachian Moments, we are going to do something a little different. We offer a Mountain Meditation at twilight.
We’ll take a guided meditation of a special cabin in the mountains on a summer evening! Ready? Get comfortable.
Feel your weary bones sink and settle gracefully at rest.
It has been a good day and you have done well, listening to and following your heart’s path, pausing, breathing, letting your heart guide you through the day…living your best life…one step at a time. Now it’s time to wind down the day.
This special place, this high mountain meadow is ready to make the transition from the busyness of the day to the quiet and stillness of the night…right alongside you.
You notice that the sky is different here, the gravity of the mountain creates its own atmosphere and it’s crisp…open and refreshing.
Take a long slow breath in and allow that clear purity to pull the stress from what you’ve been holding today.
The tall pines and twisted oaks along the ridge catch the last rays of sunlight and share them with you.
The gentle evening breeze creates a murmur in those pines, and with the crickets coming to life, the combination creates a layer of sound that purrs in your ears and caresses you completely like your grandmother’s cotton quilt.
Down below, in the meadow, the first fireflies begin their dance, flashing on and off in a ritual of love. The glow of their flight has a rhythm that illuminates and twinkles in synchronicity.
Looking into the open sky you see Venus rising, flickering on the horizon. It reminds us that the stars are always with us, even during the day, waiting just behind the curtain of rich blue and teal.
But now the blueness is fading to violet and the veil of midnight.
The flames in the fire pit curl upward, glow and throw golden shadows that ripple over you.
We have watched over these fires for thousands and thousands of years and we never tire of their mystery and beauty.
The smoke from the honey locust and cherry trees is faint but sweet and triggers memories of calmness and peace…a knowing that fills your body.
The warmth of the fire counters the cool, wet softness of the grass under your bare feet…as the humidity of the summer air has settled down to the earth all around you.
An owl calls across the meadow…pauses and tenderly calls out again…until another owl answers, reminding us that we are not alone, that God is always nearby, waiting for us to reach out.
The cloak of darkness is now complete and our breathing has gradually become effortless and smooth, it is time for us to feel the complete, peaceful and healing world of sleep and dreams…allow the soft song of those pines to provide a bed of sounds to help you drift away.
Thanks for joining us for this mountain meditation and thanks for liking, commenting and sharing this post.
