About Appalachian Memory Keepers

Our Mission

Appalachian Memory Keepers is passionately committed to collecting and sharing the heritage and culture of Appalachia.

Who We Are

We are a group of volunteers who have formed a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing Appalachian history, culture and stories. The sad truth is that the people who know this history, who lived this history, are passing, on a daily basis….and many of their stories of old Appalachia are being forever lost.

We think that is a tragedy. We believe that these people and their stories, deserve respect, and have value…tremendous value. These stories should be kept alive because although the world is far different today….the information in these stories may be needed again, sometime in the near future. Our children and their children’s children need to know from whence they came. They need to know their authentic Appalachian heritage…and not the one that is so often frequently and foolishly stereotyped in pop culture

Appalachian Memory Keepers is dedicated to preserving and sharing these stories and memories thru modern media, including film, podcast, photographs, and online articles

We invite you to explore our site and see all the great content that we have collected. We encourage you to follow us on facebook and other social media. We appreciate EVERY donation because they help us create the films that so many of you love and comment on. In fact we couldn’t produce these videos without YOUR help!
